What is the Secret ?? Difficult Seat Cushion Closure
« on: September 13, 2019, 09:35:01 PM »
I'm two months into Ducati ownership and I love my 2019 MTS 950S, but everytime I unlock and remove my passenger seat cushion to either attach, adjust or remove my tail bag, I have the hardest time getting that cushion re-attached  and locked back in place.  Today I wasted over one hour fiddling with it.  What gives?

Can someone tell me the best method to easily getting the passenger seat cushion re-attached and locked in place?

Thanks,
Mark

Put rear touge  into recesses hold seat in position mild thump and Bob's your uncle! :046:

Should all happen in 10 to 15 seconds............well mine does every time :821:

The rear tongue does not easily fit in the rear recess.  Is there a way to adjust it??  The way I'm having to do it is press down hard on the rear of the seat and blindly try to figure out how to guide it in.  Not very easy.  This should not be this hard.

Thanks.

You can apply some silicone spray on the rubber seal and on the tongue. Or you have to get used to it, to find the right spot. I had the same problem, but after 3-4-5 time I get the used to it.

Just checking the obvious - assuming you are leaving the space under the seat empty, or have ensured that the tool bag or any accessories you may store there are not fouling the seat?  I have had to get creative since buying a disc lock and fitting that under the rear seat with the tool kit, and it's surprising how little space is actually left when the seat is in place. Sorry I'm sure you will have thought of that at minute one, but hey ho.... :164:

No help to the OP other than some commiseration; I have exactly the same experience every time I take the seat off.  My quickest re-install is probably 20 minutes of coaxing and 'cussing.

Strange as this seems to affect owners differently . For me it is not an issue - a little bit fiddly but no more than a few seconds or so to reattach

I'm guessing there are man/machine interface problems here. I've no problems getting the seat back on and I keep the supplied tool kit, a tyre pressure gauge and a.large disc lock underneath.

Like others, I don't really struggle with this.  When I refit my rear seat I always hold the seat at slight angle (lower at the back) so that the plastic tongue at the rear of the seat squab is aiming at or near the slot into which it will fit.  I then begin to fit the rear of the seat, pushing down at the rear so the tongue begins to engage while pushing down and sliding the seat backwards.  When the tongue slides home, push down on the front of the seat, to engage the lock.  Sounds vaguely suggestive I know, but that's the delight of the English language..... :745:
