Connecting satnav and refitting the 'Ducati' side fairings
« on: September 15, 2019, 11:04:58 AM »
Hi folks,

Having followed the very helpful posts on here I've managed to locate the satnav connector and will have mine connected when the pigtails I've ordered arrive. (I couldn't bring myself to the shameful act of chopping off the connector and just joining the wires directly.) USB plug in will suffice for power in the meantime.

The reason for this post is just to see if there are any pointers to the technique for re-fitting the black side fairings properly. It seems one side goes back ok but the other won't properly locate at the front - the wide tab nearest the front just won't go into the vertical slot how ever I try manipulating it. The two lugs on the side locate ok and the fairing is pretty much in line along its length but at the front end the point is still 2 or 3 mm wide of the depression it should sit in.

Interestingly, the video on here showing the front end being rebuilt seems to have been cut/edited just at the point he's wrestling with the same part.

I've tried swearing, having another coffee and threatening it, but no joy yet.

Im afraid to say that some are like it, including mine, even the main dealers cant get it to sit correct;y & put it down to mass produced plastics that warp out of shape

I know that isnt what you wanted to hear
If I had a second brain cell it would be so lonely......

Thanks for the quick reply BabyD.

Not necessarily what I wanted to hear as you say, but at least I know it isn't just me then.

Wish I'd have paid a bit more attention before I took it off, so I would have known if it was seating properly to begin with.

Cheers

Was the same for me when I hooked up my Satnav, and the dealer could not get it right either at the 18,000 mile service.

Poke the tapered end of a long cable tie through the slot from the tank side, put the end under the panel tab and then slide panel back into position, the cable tie will guide the tab into the slot. Once located pull the cable tie out.

My dealer couldnt refit the right side black panel properly so ordered a replacement (under warranty) which has now been on and off many times without a problem.

That's interesting - I'm taking mine in tomorrow as the fuel sensor seems up the creek so I'll see what happens after they've taken the tank off.

Thanks both - the cable tie plan makes sense too. I'll keep that in mind if all else fails.

My problem started when I took my tank cover off to runs some wire from the rear 12v receptacle (before I knew about the satnav wires, DOH) The tank cover has oval holes for the fasteners so there is some adjustment. I think put my cover back on askew. I am going to try the zip tie trick.

Still waiting for a call to get the fuel sensor fitted (parts on order, apparently) but in the meantime have managed to wire in the satnav using the plug mentioned elsewhere on this forum. (I'll let the dealer have a go at refitting the wonky side panel when they fit the fuel sensor).

The satnav connection on mine only had the female end of the plug connected, so I assume the previous owner has the male bit attached to his satnav wiring. Consequently I bought a replacement 'rats tail' and managed to get it all sorted so that was a success. The male plugs were sold as 'indicator connectors' and sold in pairs - the net result is I have a spare one if anyone hasn't done theirs yet and wants it?

I know it's been some time here. But I have been trying to find out what type if connector I need for the sat nav feed? Tried a search to no avail.
