Top box alternative? Any ideas?
« on: July 24, 2017, 09:44:11 AM »
I think I'm going to try living without a top box  as I think bike looks better without but would like something fitted for going trips. Plenty of options I know but just wondered if anyone has any opinion on soft/ semi rigid tail pack or similar that fits well to bike and looks good when on?

Hiya,

I've been thinking about the same thing.  My bike came with the touring kit (panniers and centre stand) although I don't intend to use these on a daily basis.  I've just fitted an SW-Motech rear carrier (same as the 1200 Enduro) so that I can load additional gear in an SW-Motech 350 litre drybag when the wife and I are touring, but for everyday use I've ordered a Givi UT807 rear bag - really just to take my 'commute' type stuff such as waterproof trousers, gloves and glasses etc.  Should be here next week, so happy to post some pictures if you're interested?

Best, Redzob

I have and still use Kriega soft bags. Worth a look.

+1 for Kreiga bags. I've got the US30 bag and it fits well on the Multi.

Thanks, good to know I'm not alone- no doubt top case is handy and secure but just don't think it looks that good, I have actually just spent the day tinkering and adapting a tail pack that I have and it looks decent and secure. Will see how that goes.

I looked at 3 options - Duc has a new soft waterproof bag for about $150 US, looks ok. SW Motech Spaceman is what I ended up buying but also looked at the Givi MT502 - looks like a carry on bag. The Givi is cool because it is a system - you can add another bag on top  that matches, giving lots of flexibility. I chose the SW because it matches my daily requirements and my SW EVO tank bag.

I picked up a used KTM Gobi trunk and ordered the Hepco Becker luggage rack/mount.  The rack bolted on in 10 mins. And fits perfectly using the Ducati mounting holes. I needed the trunk to carry my work stuff and it's really handy when picking up groceries etc. I've become a trunk lover and really love the utility factor.  They're not too popular on this side of the pond except with scooter riders.

Hi Wassers,
Sorry to resurrect an old topic but is there any chance you could take a pic of where you fitted the 4 anchor straps that are mounted to the bike? I've got a Kriega US30 that I used on a previous bike but can't see how to fit the anchor straps on the MTS. Thanks!
