After warranty oil specs
« on: October 31, 2017, 11:04:53 AM »
I was thinking in changing oil brand for motul 300v when the warranty's over.

Are you going to continuing using the Shell advance and what grade do you use?

Hi
I'm having oil comsuption troubles and after going 3 times to ducati to claim they made a test to see hoe many oil the bike is using. The result is 186ml per 1000km. Ducati  Spain says that's Ok, but I was totally in discomfort with that so I took profit to my tryp to Italy and visited the Factory - Shop and spoke with them.
The result and the official response is "Shell oil is not going to damage the engine, but it's far from being a good oil, is very liquid even with the proper graduation."
The recommended me 'Bardahl' as the very first and expensive option or 'Castrol Power 1'.

Wow, that's a high consumption.
I am happy my bike is not using oil ( Ihave done now 11.000 km), but to be sure on holidays I took a bottle of 1 liter oil with me. My dealer advised me Motorex, they also used it by the first oil change at 1.000 km.
Motorex is reasonably priced, I paid here in The Netherlands 16,50 for 1 liter.

Over 5000 kms now and no oil consumption at all  (2000 kms of which was in temps of 30 degs with relatively long trip times )

My bike uses a bit of oil, had it checked out by the dealer and they think the amount is ok and expected this till the engine has a few miles on in - done just under 8000 and have used about 1lt maybe in that time !
Using the recommended Shell item.

ducatis drink oil specially if you go hard on the throttle, mine as 10.000km and is in the minimum indicator, had to go to the dealer to add some oil, about 1/4 liter, for me it is normal and by the input information from  our member Jcastellvi that makes sence - thanks for the advice.

Hi will go to Castrol formula 1 racing 10w50 after it finish the warranty

Many engines will consume a bit of oil, specially when they're new so I wouldn't worry much unless it consumes a lot of it. 186ml per 1000km seems quite a bit though.
