New owner Warwickshire
« on: March 24, 2018, 04:56:09 PM »
Hi Everyone
I have bought my first Ducati and have just covered 100 miles on it.
Enjoyed it immensely.

Jus a couple of questions. How many miles for the gearbox to bed in so I can find neutral, worse bike on nearly 40 years of riding.

Secondly it feels very high compared to the street Triple I have just sold. So I am wondering about the low seat. I am 5 8 and I could do with being lower in car parks etc. But I dont want to sacrifice comfort.

Throughly loved it though back out tomorrow to get the miles in ready for a weeks trip in Scotland 😀

Welcome to the forum

Most people have problems finding neutral at first it dose improve then is OK

I think the secret is to have the clutch leaver adjusted by the dealer that cured my problem

Hope that helps

:400: Paultheplumber, as Murf46 said it does get better the more you ride it, but you will find when they change the oil on your first service 600 mile mine was cured then

Welcome to the Forum Paultheplumber. I was also seriously concerned at first about the complete inability to get neutral unless the engine was killed but the problem went away completely after about 1500 miles and it is now a great gearbox

I am a tad under 5'8" and the bike seat height is not problem for me - you just need to get used to the height of an adventure type bike  - especially if you came from a Street Triple it will seem high

Love the bike - to look at and to ride - and hope you will enjoy yours as much

You will see plenty of posts about the height of the bike here on this forum.

Enjoy the bike!

:0461: with what's been said about the gearbox with a big BUT... If it doesn't start to feel better after a few hundred miles then it may need adjusting.  BUT... it's dead easy so don't bother waiting for a Ducati mechanic.

The clutch is cable operated and there's a big adjuster on the cable outer sheath at the lever. It moves in positive steps, I turned mine two steps and it transformed it. BUT (yes another) make sure the bike if FULLY warmed up before you adjust anything (this bike changes character as it warms up more than any bike I've ever known).

BUT (final one)... get a few hundred miles on it first (unless it's really bad!).   :002:
If I knew what I was doing I would probably stop doing it.
