Thinking about it......
« on: June 20, 2018, 09:50:36 AM »
Hello there.
I currently own a Versys 1000 and really like it but somehow I haven't 'engaged' with the bike (even after 13,500 miles!) It's silky smooth, comfortable and has good weather protection and does everything I want but I wonder if I would enjoy the twin feel more. I previously owned a Suzuki V-Strom 650 and found it more 'planted' and engaging to ride. Also larger front wheel may be another factor. I'm not interested in 'razzing' around but enjoy touring and longer trips (and even shopping!)  :015:
What do you chaps and chapesses reckon???
Cheers.

Dont spend too long mulling it over, youll only be wasting good riding time on a fantastic bike. Ive owned mine for a few days short of a year and covered just under 11000 miles. Im just back from a 10 day trip to the Dolomites, riding over 2500 miles, the first big trip Ive done on it and Im now going to sell my Pan European 1300 since the multi has just been a far better and more engaging bike to do my long road trips on. I love it.....it stirs the soul. Plus, its been totally reliable through all weather. And it looks beautiful. And.......I could go on and on!

Buy one, you wont regret it.

Panniers and top box, either Ducati options or go choose your own to suit.

The weather protection is not far short of the Pan, but then, nothing else will shield you from the elements like a Pan.

Get a test ride booked, you wont regret it.

I tested the Ducati against the VStrom 1000 and to be fair it was a close thing because the VStrom is a good bike. They both have very engaging V twin motors and I think you'll find the V twin far more entertaining than a big four. The Ducati won in the end for me because it's a higher quality motorcycle (but you'll pay extra for that) and I found it a lot more comfortable. By the time I'd adapted the VStrom to the levels of the Ducati the prices were not that far apart.
If I knew what I was doing I would probably stop doing it.

Go for it....you will not regret it.
I can't say enough how great this bike is. I have had the odd niggle but haven't we all.
It's the only bike that I have had that when I get off it and lock it away I want to be back on it straight away.

The power and sound over 6k revs is immense for a 937cc engine. The twin gives off the vibes and torque just at the right level. I sometimes have a blip around the local roads without ear plugs just to put the grin on my face.

Mpg is amazing. 50+ easy and mostly around 60.
9000mile or 12 month service intervals so when you compare to other bikes it is not that expensive per mile.

If you can stretch to it go for the side panniers but not the rear box.
Warning....watch out for a guy called "tozes" His boxes are massive and need a wide load permit to move 😉
He does however have a great fix for the slack on the throttle. Well worth it if you decide to buy.

The V-Strom has a huge exhaust and not to my liking.....its like a rocket launcher. Don't waste money on the sport exhaust there's no difference in sound IMO.

Book the test ride and go out for at least 2hrs or more.

First post here, but go test ride one. I took one home as a loaner when I dropped my Panigale off for service and it was just amazing. Bought one two weeks later.
Great for commuting, great engine, great handling for everyday riding. Just an awesome bike.
Got a top case with it to carry some of my work gear.
You wont regret it...

I've owned a few bikes in the past and this is by far the best yet. Take a good test ride.

Obviously everyone on this forum is a Multistrada 950 lover, and Im no exception. It is a great bike, good for touring or strafing the hills. I have never ridden the Kawi.  But I did have an SV650 and I can attest to the charm of the motor. The 950 easily out performs and is more endearing than the Suzi. The only bike I have ever ridden that competes with the 950 is the Tiger 1050.  Ride them see what you like.
