How best to clean the matte white finish?
« on: May 26, 2019, 05:21:01 PM »
Local dealer has two new 2017 950's real close to buying one.  White or red . . . .  I go back and forth but the white bike already has an oil smudge just below the windshield.  Think PDI monkey but a big greasy thumb print from 10w40 and then tried to wipe it off and smeared it everywhere.  How likely am I to get that off the bike if I buy it?  I won't get caught up in that dealer game of, "buy the bike and we'll make sure it get's cleaned up."  Then some guy in back is tasked with the impossible if it simply cannot be done.

I'll probably ask to hear each bike side by side and see if one is making mechanical noises the other is not and go from there.

I've been using this Adams Matte detailer on mine and it seems to work well. I just wipe it down when I get home so the bugs don't stay on for long.

Lots of people swear by the Honda Pro cleaner but I have not used it.

First I would check and ride for mechanical issues. Go with the one that feels best.  The panels are plastic and can always be replaced.  Same color or different.  Or mix/match making it red and white!
Second if white is what you want then tell them to clean and detail the bike BEFORE you buy it. They have to prep the bike for delivery its a line item they charge you and it had to be made ready for sale whether its for you or someone else so they can't say we are only going to do something if you buy it.  No It has to be done so it can be sold.
