Right hand pannier fell off whilst going to shops
« on: July 11, 2019, 03:31:28 PM »
Well, took missus to the beach both panniers on full of
Towels and sandals etc... Spent day at beach unloaded panniers of bike gear replaced with towels etc, rode home from Lyme Regis to Weymouth unloaded panniers.

Got up next morning, panniers still on bike but empty and locked, decided to get flat white from McDonald's before going for ride with my mate, on the way hit road repair and ping front lug of right hand pannier shears off and pannier bounces down the thankfully empty road at about 40mph, as you imagine it's scratched to pieces, stayed intact tho!

Now rider's of Bridgwater have told me it's not a warranty claim, go figure! They will try and get a replacement.

Needless to stay I am cheesed off.

Anyone else had issues?

Regards

Tony

I had a tip over on the left side of my bike with panniers on.  When I return from trip, I looked at the pannier and the case itself was fine except for scratches.  However, there was a small piece of plastic that broke off from inside the frame mount where the pannier mounts and locks.  Now the pannier is a little loose but doesn't come off.  Perhaps need to check and be sure the inside of the frame mounts are ok.

I would check it, mine has never been dropped, so it's a bit strange and bloody expensive!

this is terrible news.  I don't know if its possible, but is it possible to mount the pannier outside the lower bracket? meaning you hit a bump and then it can rattle?

Not sure it seemed fine, maybe my wife knocked it when she got off? Who knows. Just be careful everyone and check the panniers before setting off.

To check if the frame tab is broken, can you still insert the pannier into the frame mount and lock it?  Does it move around? Is there any looseness to it?

No the pannier lugs are destroyed after bouncing down the road, front one completely sheared off.

Could that lug have been previously damaged?  A crack? Just brain storming .
One of the things I noticed when I first put mine on were they fit very tight and I would have to tap the cases forward after inserting the lugs, in order to lock the case in place.

Had this on a GS pannier that went missing on a trip. If the lugs are well out you can lock the pannier but its actually locked out of position not in. Suspect same can happen on MS
