    Resetting Service Icon
    on: September 24, 2019, 11:26:33 pm

I took a quick look and did not see any info on this, so I decided to post this query. As of last Thursday, the two Ducati dealers in my local area - Seattle, Washington - closed abruptly, apparently by the bank for nonpayment of bills by the owner (he owned a total of five dealerships, all closed - BMY, Ducati and two multi-line operations).

Anyhow, my '17 Multi 950 is due for its two year, 9000 mile service. I am capable of doing the work, but as far as I know there is no way to reset the service icon except at the dealer. Is this true, or is there a way to do this by the owner? I know older bikes could be done by the owner but I have not found any info on how to do this for the newer Ducs.

So - any ideas? I do have a dealer about 90 miles away, but if I can avoid the slog to them and back that would be good.

As far as I know, the service dates/mileages can only be reset with the specialist equipment........my mechanic has a box of tricks to do this but it costs a lot of money. Maybe a motorbike dealer nearby could do it for you, otherwise it’s a 90 mile ride to the Ducati shop (not far, is it)

Thanks for the reply - that is pretty much what  I figured. I will be contacting the semi-distant dealer ( the one shutting down nearest me is 10 minutes away - so close and convenient) today and get more information from them.

I would contact the dealer to make sure they are happy to do it. I have read dealers over here are refusing to reset service indicators unless they have carried out the service as they can’t guarantee service has been carried out correctly and are in affect putting their name by resetting the indicator to any service carried out.

I did check with them today, and they did not have an issue with it.

I have a maintenance agreement with my local dealer so...  I've already overspent.
the boys in the 1200 forum seem to have a solution, but it may not be applicable for us.

you could get an ELM327 Scanner:
    https://www.amazon.com/obdator-Bluetooth-Scanner-Automotive-Diagnostic/dp/B074DWH8JR/ref=asc_df_B074DWH8JR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241896598945&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7186636565578826362&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013447&hvtargid=pla-571956337377&psc=1

    and a ducati/fiat adapter cable:
    https://www.amazon.com/Goliton-OBD2-Connector-Diagnostic-Adapter/dp/B0053NRLHE/ref=pd_sbs_263_3/145-8579573-1190525?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0053NRLHE&pd_rd_r=2eda9f09-f595-4290-8d54-e6994bb0b3f7&pd_rd_w=wyTTT&pd_rd_wg=8Q6eG&pf_rd_p=d66372fe-68a6-48a3-90ec-41d7f64212be&pf_rd_r=4ZEEQNX953KKNJ79CX0D&psc=1&refRID=4ZEEQNX953KKNJ79CX0D

    use software like this:
    http://christian.giupponi.free.fr/Android/SCANM5X.HTM

but I can not confirm this works, supposedly the software allows for resetting the service codes and much much more.  There are some caveats with the ECU type.  It feels kinda "Hack" to me, but it looks fairly well documented.

This solution looks like it may be engineered for Ducati,
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S85FNV4/ref=psdc_15707381_t4_B0053NRLHE

If you want to take one for the team and let us know, that would be great.  I am tempted to try the first route, just because I want to know I can beat the system...  but I have already been beaten by the system.

Hm.. I  will be out of the area for a few weeks. I might have to look into the links and items above just to see if I can at least connect to ECU. I'll report back in a few with any updates.

You might try calling Seattle Used Bikes in Wallingford. I believe they have a former dealer tech there and work on a lot of Ducs. Also, one of Ducati Redmond’s techs has a posting on their Facebook page that he’s available for work at his home shop. Bummer about the dealers closing.

I have emailed SUB, and they have a tech that is failry up to date on Ducatis, but they are not sure if there computer can reset the icon on the newer bikes and they can't do any ECU updates.

Do you have the tech's Facebook link? I don't do Facebook at present.

Well...now I can’t find it and don’t remember if it was on their page or linked to one of the news articles. Their FB page is down now. I’m sure South Sound and SUB will be busy until this gets sorted out. If I find the name, I’ll let you know. Desmo Northwest might also be a good source of information.
