The damnable Battery Charger socket...

I apologise upfront for the stupidity of this question but...wanting to plug my Optimate in with the correct plug, I cannot for the life of me work out how to get the end cap off the
Ducati plug thingy!! It may be to do with 2 issues. Big fat fingers attached to big hands and nerve damage in the tips of said fingers. However, I think operator stupidity is more likely.
Before my temper frays and I start throwing things, scaring the dogs and causing neighbours to check my sanity, am I missing something obvious? Do I need to press/pull/slide
something?!! It can't surely be this difficult to get a cap off the end of a rubbery plug thing!!!   

Oh, am amused by people calling the 950 Mutley. In the past, all my bikes have been named, Beemers usually have ended up with Brunhilda, Bertha or Gertha. Triumph's ended up as
Trumper (bad choice in retrospect), Thumper and Kylie. Have no idea why. Harleys were Shaker and 'over priced pile of poo'. Guess the Multi could be a Mutley but that suggests a bit
of a sniggering dog...

Mine's a 2018 model and simply pulls off with no issues.  It's a push fit just like the cover on the Optimate cable thing that plugs into it. Unless they've changed out then it should be pretty simple to pull off

I assume your Ducati socket is the same as mine (arrowed below) in which case the cap simply pulls off. (The small lead shown is to connect to my CTEK charger).

Thanks for the pic and the comment but, no, mine doesn't have one. And while messing about with it, managed to make the bike fall over! Luckily no damage as it rested on a big fibreglass roof box but it took me and a neighbour to get it back on its wheels. I have dropped a R1200 BMW (not GS) while cleaning it a while back and I got that back on its feet easily. Must've been the lower centre of gravity...still slapping myself. Oh well, guess I'll have to buy one of these connectors which go through the 12v socket

Lucky with the drop! Don't understand why the same bike should have different fixtures but there we are - I'm sure you'll figure a solution.

Why don’t you simply connect an Optimate power lead to the battery terminals? A five minute job. Also, the dash 12V socket is switched, so you won’t have any joy plugging into that; don’t know about the under-seat one as I’ve never used it.

That plug looks aftermarket to me as I don't have that plug either & I use the genuine Ducati battery maintainer that plugs into the 2 pin socket on the side of the ECU

Well the bike was bought new from a Ducati dealer and that's how it came, with the arrowed socket already wired ready to receive a charger cable. Who knows ????

It shows where I had discreetly positioned my optimate lead. It's zip tied behind the RHS pillion peg frame and wired direct to the battery under the main seat.

I hope this helps. No longer own the 950.

Thanks all for the comments/advise. Have now found a local expert (Mark at VTS) who has proved to me that there is no connector!! He was a Ducati service technician so can be trusted!
Found one of the straight to battery leads on eBay, so my worries will soon be over!
