2018 Multistrada Heated Grips Activation

I had a satnav mount and cable fitted recently & the Ducati garage turned off my heated grips while the bike was in the garage. For the life of me I cannot turned them back on!

The bike is a Multistrada 950 Tour 2018 where the grips are activated through the menu. I read through the manual which suggested using the up button to cycle through the lefthand information bar until HG is displayed. Once displayed press and hold the select button for two seconds to select how hot to make the grips. I am either shown the engine mode menu if the button is not held long enough (sport, touring, etc) or the main options menu if I hold the button for too long.

What am I doing wrong?

I have a 2017 with the same heat grips. It comes up on the menu whether or not the bike is running as long as the ignition key is switched on.  I would think that if it is not coming up on the menu then the connector or wire may have come loose or be defective.  You should be able to scroll thru the menu and have the HG come up.

This is only a random guess, have you had the bike from new?? did they work before the sat nav install?? The reason I ask is the person who installed the HG May have used the sat-nav power connector for the grips, so when they installed the sat-nav they unplugged what ever was already using that connector!

The correct connector for heated grips on the 950 is under the fuel tank, I know this as I was going to get them fitted on the 950 I had

The bike was second hand when I brought it and there was a TomTom cable already fitted. The grips worked at this point, but I have a Garmin, so the cable needed swapping. The garage turned the grips on for my test ride when I brought it and I never felt the need to change it due to the cold weather.

I can see the menu option, it's just selecting a new value which is the problem :D I wonder if this happens when the grips are activated, but they don't have any power running to them.

Just a thought from the way you describe activating the grips. You might be missing the step to select them.

I was out on mine yesterday and double checked.  You use the up button to scroll through the menu until you see HG Off. (You get that message whether grips are installed or not,  mine weren't available when I first picked up the bike so were fitted later ).

You then need to hold the up button in the up position for a couple of seconds until the HG Off message starts to blink. Now use the up button to select the setting you want.

Press and hold the select button for a few seconds and the display stops blinking.

Weirdly my description comes from the manual where it states "To change the setting keep button (4) pressed for 2 seconds" which is the selection / indicator button.

The ride was great,  perfect weather for it.  I had some errands to run and took the bike as the weather was so good.

My manual (2018 bike) is wrong too. I don't think I ever followed it for the grips though, just trial and error based on the way some of the other things like trip meters are set.
