Recently-returned motorcyclist goes Desmo in shocking turn of events

LexM (55, professor) restarted riding in October 2017, after a thirty-year hiatus from a brief, youthful, and likely ill-advised romance with highway-legal motorscootering. Riding and trading successive examples of retro-inflected, Anglo-American iron (Bonneville and Bullet; three Harleys and an Indian) – always with analog clocks and air-cooled engines – his Desmo conversion experience occurred on a multi-day, early-June motorcycling foray on the beautifully curvy roads of the Arkansas Ozarks. Running up against the limitations of an American heavy tourer in that environment, but disliking the pretentious off-road aesthetics of other road-biased adventure touring motorcycles, he (aided, no doubt, by the example of a friend on a 1200 Enduro) saw both the beauty and the rationale of the Multistrada.

Much study and a couple of test rides (from the friendly, patient, and accommodating folks at Ducati Omaha) later, man and moment collided on the last day of June over a leftover '19 950 S in gray. After the 1000km/621-mile service (reached only nine days post purchase), LexM finds the 950 S remarkably well-thought-out and fun to ride. The TFT dash and the multitude of settings contained therein are mind-boggling by comparison to the adjustments available on his former rides. Undeterred, he rides by day and studies the owner's manual nightly—turning to this forum for insight and guidance as he unlocks the mysteries of this bewitching bike. His touring package should arrive from Italy any day now.

Many thanks to all for the warm welcome! I have a lot to learn and I hope, with time, something to contribute. Happy riding!  :300:
