Hi all, just joined after riding Jap bikes all my life until last year. Bought a Tiger 800 xcx but got fed up looking at all the nuts and bolts on show. Test rode a 950s and loved it. Placed order and picked up nice grey one 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately I’ve had more false neutrals in last 2 weeks than the past 30years put together. Going in for first service next week , fingers crossed that they can do something about It otherwise it might not see winter with me on it.  Love the look and handling but gearbox is shocking in this day and age. I’m hoping it’s just not been set up correctly as rode a 1200 for 2 months and the gearbox on that was nice.

Congrats on the new bike, good choice! (I also came from a Tiger 800).

I think most people find that the false neutrals (and difficulty finding neutral when you do want it) both tend to go away with a few hundred miles and the first service under your belt, so fingers crossed! It worked for me and I still love the bike 2.5 years later.

Common issue that goes away very quickly. You'll be fine.

Interestingly I had a Triumph 800 XrX prior to getting the 950 (and then upgrading to the s)
Sometimes you need a really crooked road to get your head straight

I certainly hope so but, strangely changed the engine setting last night to touring and comfort. Not a single false gear experienced. Swapped it back to middle setting and false neutrals experienced again. Must be a mapping issue!

When I got my 950S, the sales person did say that it takes a firmer foot on the gearlever !!!
I also run a Tiger XRX and 950S is certainly not as slick as the tiger, but it does get better with miles and possible adjustment of the gear lever position ???

Thanks guys, I’m glad it’s not  just my head playing tricks. It does appear to be getting less and less as the mileage goes on or perhaps I’m changing my riding style. Adjusted the gear lever height and removed the rubbers on the pegs which seems a touch better. Apart from the gears I love it. First time for years I can’t wait to get out on it! Never really had the same feeling or urge on the tiger.
