on: August 09, 2020, 03:02:37 pm
August 09, 2020, 03:02:37 pm
Iíve only gone and dropped my 950 ms on a car park and the tank is scratched and gouged along around 4 inches on the edge that hit the gravel
Itís like £700 to get a new tank fitted
My excess is £750
Iím hoping somebody can tell me if there is a cheaper option to repair rather than replace
Thanks in advAnce

Welcome to the 'dropped' club JonDuff..

If the truth be know - you are not unique in dropping the bike in a car park - or at 5 MPH

I'm sure a reputable panel beater will repair the tank to the original standard for a lot less than that figure!

I note that this is your first post - Welcome to the Forum!

£560 for a new replacement and do it yourself or a body shop may be cheaper for a sand, fill and respray.

Hi, I don't want to open a flame war about which is the nicer or more effective protector......  they should save the bike.
It's just an opinion, this model, which is nicer than mine and no doubt, doesn't look like it will stand a good fall with the full tank (heavy weight). It looks like too close to the fairings and when I was evaluating it among the others, I didn't like that one of the anchors/point that will absorb the hit, is in the middle of a frame tube. I bought an far uglier Givi, but it gave me more trust for the above mentioned aspects.

I have this one and it does the job. Unfortunatelly, I have dropped the bike three times and I have no scratch on the fairings.

Thanks, now I understand. 3 times is quite a  significant ďtestingĒ, Iím sorry for that. Any consequence on the front supports nearby the radiator? These were my question marks about the  overall design.
    Cheers

Glad you ask. On the third drop, standing still with passager and top case full and very heavy, the left bar bend a bit and now it's closer to the fairings than the right one. Not significant, but you ca see it. And the head of the bolt snapped, but the screw it still the after many many km. The mecanic said that it's fine like this, but maybe I can replace the crashbar. I have in plan, but not soon.
