I'd like to know, which gasoline do MTS950 need unleaded(regular) or high-octane(premium).
    Please teach me. :006:

    Thank you,  Murf46.
In Japan, half of the gasoline price is tax.
It may be a bit cheaper compared to the UK.
The price of gasoline in my neighborhood is shown below
      unleaded(regular)     130.3(JPY/lt) 1.11(EUR/lt)
      high-octane(premium)  140.7(JPY/lt) 1.19(EUR/lt)
       *Tax included, *1EUR=118JPY

    It's glad because it's a little cheaper if it's a regular. :047:

Rokube may be asking whether we're using 95 RON or 98 RON unleaded.  :084:

Have to admit I've been putting BP Ultimate in mine (which I think is 97).

I did not get it clearer, so I tried a little research.

The RON value stipulated by JIS K2202(Japanese Industrial Standard) is as follows.
       unleaded(regular)     89(RON) or more
       high-octane(premium)  96(RON) or more
Therefore, I have to use high-octane(premium) in JAPAN.

    Thank you everyone. :028:

Just the feeling through the seat , but I tried my first tank of SHELL 98 RON at 5000ks last week ,  and I felt another couple of horsepower in there somewhere!!
Interestingly ,the idle went up to about 1600-1800rpm immediately, but then settled back to normal by the time I rode off.

I always use 98RON when I can get it. Sometimes touring (typically in France) I can only get supermarket fuel which is 95RON. While touring at least I hardly notice any difference but then again I'm not racing round, I'm quite chilled, I'm enjoying the scenery and everybody is driving on the wrong side of the road, so there's lots to distract me. Back home I do notice the very slight drop in power, the sparkle goes out of the acceleration and it feels a bit smoother with 98RON.

As to cost, half the difference in pump price is recovered because you get a better MPG with the higher octane fuel. I have a spreadsheet to prove it  :015: At the time I checked (it was on a BMW but I think the Ducati will be the same) the difference between 95RON and 98RON was 8p/ltr (£0.08) but it was only costing me 4p/ltr or roughly £0.70 per fill-up which I'm willing to pay for the benefits :300:

Don't go below 95RON, it's terrible and the high ethanol stuff really kill the engine. I tried it in Sweden because it's so cheap and I didn't know what I was doing (still don't  :033: ) and the bike (an Aprilia this time) wouldn't even tick over without the throttle held open. I was almost on my way home because I thought it was seriously sick  :003:

I recently went on a run to Conwy then Betswy Coed, Llangollen and back.

I filled up at the Shell garage near J&S Northwich (while waiting for the others to arrive) using their 98 RON V-power and I was pleasantly surprised.

The bike felt smoother in sport mode and returned over 60mpg after 180 miles.
The extra cost is noticeable but I'm sure as Conman said it must even out with the better mpg return.

I stick with 98 now and if available the V-power

If you have a look at the Owners Manual, in the back under "Fuels, Lubricants and Other Fluids" it says the minimum octane rating is RON 95, so in fact rokube you shouldn't be putting your regular fuel in the tank  :192:

It also says "The motorcycle is only compatible with fuel having a maximum content of ethanol of 10% (E10). Using fuel with an ethanol content over 10% is forbidden". It says it's going to void your warranty and may damage the engine. So that's pretty clear. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the future as it's a bit of a policy on the quiet to gradually increase the ethanol content of petrol/gasoline for some reason  :027:

I only started using premium on a trip to Scotland. Have to admit a very slight improvement in performance (or maybe my imagination trying to justify the extra price over regular) but I did notice an improved fuel economy.  Rightly or wrongly I always use proper fuels Esso, Shell etc, not supermarket.  I believe the additives from the big companies are better. I still have memories of Tesco fuel issues with engines a few years ago.
