good afternoon from new zealand   i have just purchased a 2020 ducati multistrada 950s and love it after owning over years possible 30 bikes have already fitted a lowering link, headlight protection, water pump protection ,and engine protection bars

After a twenty yr break I fell in love with a beutiful 2017 MT950S. Had her delivered from Columbus, OH. and haven't been able to ride her yet. Does keeping her in the 4 degree barn hurt.?

1) After 20 years off bikes, make sure you  spend as much on your safety gear and additional training as you can afford. No matter how good you think you used to be, this bike has the same power, more torque and better handling then the Ducati 916 from 20 years ago and that was a bike that demanded your attention.

2) 4 degrees Celsius is not a problem.  4 degrees Fahrenheit? That is -15 Celsius. That will kill your battery really quickly so use a trickle charger or disconnect it and bring it indoors. -15C is pushing the limits of protection your 4 year old coolant can provide and is much lower then your engine oil can protect. Do NOT start the engine. Wait until the thaw (and then wait some more) until it warms up naturally and give it a very careful and thorough examination before doing anything.

3) You might have a typo. The MTS950'S' wasn't introduced until 2019.

Thanks for the info, and also for clarifying the difference between the models. I'm taking my time getting back up to speed. First time in my life I'm wearing an actual riding jacket and proper gloves. Still not at the point where I'll wear riding pants though.

+ 1 on the wise words from Paul_Smith..... there is no rush, take it steady, you've got all the time in the world to enjoy your new steed.

It's been a while, but I had a 12 year gap between riding and I did a full day 1-2-1 course with an instructor to get myself 'back in the saddle' safely... best thing I ever did!

Sorry to sound like daddy here when you are clearly not a youngster. You might already know all of this stuff from back when but some things have changed since then, for one thing, we don't bounce as well as we did twenty years ago and the accident you are most likely to have first is a tip-over at low speed or standing still. If you are out of practice at falling, that is going risk injury to your head, hands, knees and hips. I would advise you to get all the gear and wear it every time. The good news is that the gear is so much better and more comfortable then it was back then. The bad news is that the cheap stuff is not worth the money.
