I had a set of Shad panniers/top case off my VFR and got the racks yesterday and put them on this morning.  I think it's gonna work out ok.

Installed Shad top box on mine after Hepco support snapped in two.

Any chance of some more pics of the Shad system without the topcase fitted?

Shad kit D0ML17T seems to be the best bet for a luggage-only rack without breaking the bank and the additional bracing to the frame won't do any harm either.

I ordered from FC MOTO and got a 10% discount from their site.  Had it in 6 days from Germany to South Carolina.  These are all the pics I have.  It is very well made and sturdy.  These are all I have, only one with the metal top place in the kit.  Hope it helps.

I have the Shad SH58X Top box already fitted and have purchased the panniers and fitting kit, required for an upcoming tour of Scotland (if we’re allowed in!). As usual the instructions are pretty poor so I have a question or two re the fitting of the panniers, did you need to remove the top box arms? Where the top box arms and pannier arms bolt together, which one went on top and did you use any of the spacers?

The instructions are not the best.  Not at the bike at the moment, but I think if you look at the last pic on top rack instructions I think it shows the two together.  I may be on the pannier rack page.  I did not notice it until I was finished. I can't remember which is on the bottom. I want to say pannier's underneath top rack.  As mentioned earlier there is a pic on one of the instructions that shows which is which.  They were buggers to get on but once I did I think <20 mins would be all required.  One thing for sure is keep everything loose until all bolted together and don't forget the small spacers between top rack and pannier mounts underneath.  Wish I could give you more but bike is about 15 miles away.  I took mine out fully dressed for a test run of ~180 mi and while you can feel a difference in aerodynamics it was not disconcerting.

Just visited the bike to change oil and definitely the pannier rack is located below the top box rack:
