Decided to fit a Shad Top Box Fitting Kit as a luggage rack rather than any other of the (pricier) options available .
    Shad p/n D0ML17ST,  RRP £154.99
Ordered it from Amazon EU and I got it in less than a week for £115. (Includes VAT, taxes and delivery)

    Initial impressions:
Seems well made and it was installed on the bike in about 15 minutes. It's also quite hefty as its all steel and the top plate is about 4mm thick.
It's intended to cope with the weight a top box and contents so it should easily cope with a tent and sleeping mats.
Unlike the Ducati OEM (Touratech) rack the Shad luggage rack is also braced to the bikes subframe as well as the pillion grab rail.
No problems with using the Ducati panniers either.

Thanks again to zetaetatheta for sending photos of his setup.
