High mileage

I was informed today by a fellow multistrada owner who has reached the 62000 miles milestone that he has to replace the screen unit because the bike software does not recognize a mileage about 100,000 km & only displays dashes instead of numbers.

When he went to the dealer, they were told they can reset the dashes back to numbers, but once the ignition is turned off the dashes will return.

You can change between miles & KM yourself, it still the same distance

I thought his issue was related to having room for only 7 digits. 
The whole thought is wacky though.  There are Multistrada (1200) owners in the USA, with over 80k miles.

Yes, wacky indeed! I’m on 53000 miles so will find out in the not too distant future. I’ll ask my dealer, tomorrow, if they know of this.

Baby D, what Multistrada and year does your friend have?  I will be going by my dealer on Wednesday and will make an inquiry .

I’d be quoting the manual if applicable. From the 950S manual. 
“ Odometer (TOT)
The odometer counts and displays the total distance covered by the motorcycle with the set unit of measurement (km or mi).
The odometer number (in km or miles) is displayed with the message TOT and the indication of the unit of measurement. When the maximum value is reached (199999 km or 199999 mi) the instrument panel will permanently display said value.
The odometer value is saved permanently and cannot be reset under any circumstances.
The reading is not lost in case of a power OFF (Battery OFF).”

It’s a 1200 version, not sure on the year
