    My 2020 Multi is dead

    Hey folks:

2020 Multistrada 950s with 4000 miles on it.  I've never dropped it, put it under water, or mistreated it. Serviced impeccably.

Last weekend I was out on a ride.  While idling I noticed a sound: three successive clicks that sounded like my shifter, one per second, then repeating.  Soon I noticed that it was running rough, as if one cylinder was missing.  The next time I stopped at a light, it stalled.  It took me a while to get it restarted, and then it rode like my Royal Enfield Himalayan, except with less power.

Then it stopped altogether and would not restart.  I had it towed home.  It still will not restart, even though the starter is fine and the battery is strong.

Before I take it in for service, what are some of the more simple things I should check?  I'm seeing no similar problems to this listed on the web, although a buddy of mine has had a similar experience after dropping it in a river, which I have not done.

    Many thanks,
    -Steve

    Sorry to hear that Steve.

The symptoms are not making it easy to guess. Stalling sometimes come from a faulty sidekick sensor, but that should at least allow the bike to turn on and idle. Running rough is a harder guess, could be something simple or something very serious like mistimed belts. Do you have fuel (and by that I mean quantity and the correct - gas - not e85 or diesel)? Does it has oil in the correct level? Does the bike has any aftermarket exhaust and/or tune?

Depending on the bike's year and warranty status, I wouldn't try anything myself and would just take it to the dealer..... specially if still under warranty/extended warranty.

Best to leave it to the dealer if you are still under warranty. It might seem silly but could it be out of fuel (prompted by a bad level reading perhaps)?  If you decide to tow it, keep in mind that you have roadside assistance included as part of the base warranty. Either way, let us know what you find out.
