intro- new member in forum from Raleigh,NC - need help

just came across this forum , which i didn't knew existed

i own a 2017 ducati multistrada 950 - which i purchased in 2018 as brand new.

have like 5000 miles on the bike so far , had gone through just one oil change at a dealership when i was in California at 1000 miles.

didn't drive much after Feb,2020 - due to covid , as i have used the bike for commute for most part while i was in san jose , CA.

Since i moved out to north Carolina to start a new phase of my life , while i sold all my stuff including my mustang convertible in California , the only thing i kept is my multistrada (which everyone in my circle insisted to sell it out , instead i shipped the motorcycle to my new place )

i need some help to get the motorcycle in shape for some riding this year , which i asked the local authorised dealer for a simple regular oilchange , they are charging 600$ (which is like 4 times the cost for i do for my jeep wrangler ) - is it that expensive for a simple oil change and get some parts checked.

I'm a newbie when it comes to mechanical parts check and regular oil change and other fluids checked.

the motorcycle was pretty much in my garage from past 2 years except like 10 times where i took it for some rides.


i kept the motorcycle in good shape - kept in with full tank of gas with a fuel stabiliser additive and on battery tender for keeping the battery in good shape.



please advise how should i proceed for a oil change should i do myself or pay 600$ for the dealership , how to check for software updates for my bike.


while i purchased my bike in dealership in Sacramento ,CA in 2018, the dealer insisted on purchasing additional warranty and tire warranty - which i did , as i had no idea what issues i will deal with in future - never had a chance to use it  - is it good idea to keep it or cancel it for at least a partial refund i paid about 3k$ for that

I'm scared to even go to dealership everything they say is like too expensive.

Kalyan,

Services on the Multi tend to be expensive especially when done by the main dealers. Your bike is 5 years old now so will be due a belt change and that is probably why they are charging that much  - best to get a breakdown of what they intend to do . A routine annual service here in the UK is normally around the £300 mark for a Multi . Just wait until you get to the Desmo service - that one is really expensive !
