,picked up a brand new V2s on 1st March  and it's just covered 440 miles, pushed it out of the garage  the other morning to go for a run prior to first service, got all togged up .......pushed the start button turned over but one not start!......tried about 6 times it didn't want to know, decided to leave for 15 minutes and tried again and yes it started but  run rough .

    2)  engine sounds noisy :

    3)  engine oil looks excessively dirty for 600 miles

    4)  it goes in for first service shortly .........any thoughts?

I had my V2s delivered on 2nd March. Spent the day fitting the evo-tec stuff I'd bought for it plus the day was wet & cold so didn't ride it. I got it outside the next day to go for a ride and, like you, the engine would turn over but wouldn't start. I phoned my Dealer who sent their van to pick it up to take it back for them to check out. When the driver got to me he tried it and it started first time!! He said i must have twisted the accelerator when i was getting it out of the garage and 'flooded' it? It started & stopped several times whilst he was with me but the bike did make an awful 'screeching' noise when the engine was stopped so he took it back for them to check out. They couldn't get it to not start when they had it & it turns out all the V2s models they had in the workshop all made the same noise so they said it is normal & nothing to worry about. I've done nearly 1,000 miles since and it starts every time. If it doesn't improve I'd suggest getting it to your dealer for a check over & maybe an early running in/oil service.

Mine's a 2021 950S. Its done this twice. The first time at the beginning of a week's holiday, the second time on the third day of our trip. Same symptoms. Bike turns on, dash lights up, engine turns over but won't start. Turn the bike off, wait a few minutes, turn it back on and it goes. No idea why. I'm discussing it with my dealer, but no ideas so far.

If you try to start it and it doesn't, although the N for neutral is lit sometimes it's in a "I think I am still in gear" situation and won't respond to the Starter Button. Just work the gear leaver either way and back to physical neutral and try again. When my '21 was new it happened and I was told until it all settles this can false situation can occur. I could also provoke the problem by just switching off when riding it into the garage. Next ride-out and with engine off selected neutral with the lever, backed the bike out, switch ON, N illuminated but it wouldn't start - it was like the memory or whatever thought it was still in first. It stopped doing this after about 1k k's. If I selected neutral with the engine running then switched off it didn't happen  :084:
Even though the N is lit, try starting with the clutch lever in - may do the trick. PITA I know but a Duke is a Duke, just ask my Darmah  :001:

I had the "its in neutral but doesn't think it is" situation twice as well. The bike moved freely, but the clue was the gear indicator showed a "-" instead of "N".
When it was like that, it wouldn't turn over.
The second time mine would turn over but not start, I treated it like it was a flooded motor and that seemed to "clear" it. It certainly started up like it had been flooded.
Mileage on my machine was about 1100km the first time, and nearly 2500km the second time.
And I know what you mean about Darmah's not starting. Mine had a critical need detector. Whenever you really needed it to start, it wouldn't.
