Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 tyres - thoughts?

Looks like the bike is going to be shipped with Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2.

These have been out a couple of years now and from what I can tell they have reasonably good reviews. Being fitted to as OEM to the big brother 1200 and quite a few other adventure style bikes, they seem to be quite capable.

Only downside seems to be that they can make the steering a little heavy. Possibly this is due to a slightly heavier construction to compensate for a degree of off road use which shows when on the road. A plus point they seem to be very hard wearing and last for ever !

Anyone have any experience of these?
    Would you recommend them?

I had these on my Versys and changed them after 3500 miles although they were not completely worn out. I quite liked them, they seemed to provide good grip and were good in the wet as well. It was 100% road use though, didn't take em off road.

I did over a hundred miles yesterday in appalling weather on Cumbrian B roads and the bike felt supremely planted with these tyres. The only limitation I found was me. I got rid of my Triumph Explorer for this bike and the difference in confidence is amazing.

Hi guzzi - do you mean you feel less confident? Does this bike push the envelope more?  :084:

No problems so far with 750 miles covered on a mix of roads and conditions , a few slides but that was likely me being silly when they weren't totally scrubbed in to the edges... agree they do give confidence to push on if you want to.  See how they wear, usually the dual sport Pirellis I have had before start to become a bit too edgy on white lines etc...

300 miles so far and not any problems. They are stable in wet and dry conditions at good lean angles.
I had to release some air out as I noticed my dealer had set them to the wrong pressures from New. 2.4 front and 2.5 rear is in the book. I received 2.8 and 2.8 respectively. It feels even better now.

For my side, i ride often in duo + paniers and i don't want to inflate / deflate each week-end. So, i find a compromise. Front: 2,5 bars / rear: 2,8 bars and it's seem OK for me alone or loaded.

Have done just over 5600 miles and the rear is almost down to the wear markers.  They have given good service in all conditions, have instilled confidence and performed very well in the wet. On the odd occasion I've taken them on fire roads or green lane type going I've ridden very causiously and so have not pushed them.
I feel that the front is now not so confidence inspiring and more sensitive to road conditions, white lines etc than it was.
What to replace them with, not sure ?
Do I go for the same or try a more road oriented tyre to see if the brilliant handling of this bike can be improved ?
Full of enthusiasm - in all the wrong places

I think they are amazing tires, only tried on dry tarmac, and I can lean the bike all the way until the tip of my foot hit the ground  :156: so in dry tarmac it surprise me.

but for my type of use for this bike, next tire will be something more road use like dunlop roadsmart 3 or a michelin pilot road 4 - I'm not thinking in put this bike on the bushes or sand. for that I use a WR450  :001: :001:
