    Hard to start when the bike has been sitting

    Sometimes, if I haven't ridden for a week or so, the bike sounds like its struggling to start.  The engine turns over very slowly at first, then needs a bit of blip on the throttle.  Any idea why?  I keep it on a battery tender, so I don't think it's the battery.  The weather hasn't been cold.  Does it have to do with leaving it on the side stand and the oil draining to one side?

    Yep, mine does the same. No trickle charger used. I thought it was due to a diminished battery since I left it overnight with the parking lights on by mistake. Learned a lessen, they stay on even with the key removed. Thought I was locking the bars, went one click to far. I doubt it would be the oil unless it was really cold temps. Mystery to me?

    Never had a problem can leave the bike for weeks and it's starts first time

    Mine started absolutely fine upon returning from a 2 week holiday.

    i never had any problem to date starting mine either and she has sat for two weeks many a time

    ....just as a thought - if the two posts about poor starting are from the USA and all the UK reports are fine would this have something to do with fuel quality or octane rating ?. I read that UK fuel might be better and I always try to use 98 octane when available (Dealer recommended 98  to me and also a few very knowledgeable guys as well )

    I searched some other Ducati forums, and it sounds like the problem might have been overfilling the fuel tank, causing some fuel to overflow into the evap canister, which confuses the fuel/air mapping.  I'll be more careful with filling the tank in the future.  Started right up this weekend.

    I filled mine to the neck yesterday and after paying for the fuel and coming out to get on the bike, there was some fuel on the concrete coming from the over flow pipe and she started no problems.

    Does your bike have an evaporation canister?  Or is that just for US emissions compliance?
