    Gear Display Issue

    Hi all,

Oh no, had a problem yesterday.

I used the bike to get to a work meeting in Stevenage yesterday. No problems getting there, and glad I took the bike as the traffic was grim. However, after the meeting and the journey home I discovered a problem.

I was doing about 70mph (ahem  :007:) and I looked at my display to see the gear being displayed was showing gear 1  :087:. I knew I wasn't in first gear!!!!  :084:

Then 2 minutes later the gear display number disappeared completely, and was replaced with just 2 dashes, no matter what gear I was in! Then an engine management warning light came on and the neutral indicator on occasions was flashing on and off. At this point I am 65 miles from home and beginning to get a little nervous if I will make it back home. Luckily the bike appeared to perform ok, and as I had fuelled up in the morning, I had enough fuel to not stop and eventually managed to get home safely.

I parked up in my garage, made a brew, and then went back into the garage to start her up again to see if the problem was still there. However, I couldn't even get the bike started! Engine didn't even attempt to turn over.

So a quick telephone call to WM Snells @ Ducati Alton who were great  and they explained they have seen this issue before, but its not a common issue. Its the gear selector pushrod at fault.  They had one in stock and said bring the bike in today. I managed to get the bike started ok this morning as I realised that the bike wouldn't start up because it thought it was in gear and the side stand was down  :015:. So a quick check to get it in neutral (rolling the back backwards and forwards), got the side stand up, and the bike started fine. Phew.

On the way to the dealer the gear display appeared to be working ok again, however the engine management warning light remained permanently on.

The boys at WM Snells sorted the bike out super quick today and fitted the new gear selector in just half an hour whilst I waited (free of charge of course as its in warranty). Great service from them yet again. Highly recommend WM Snells. Great chaps.

So all good and I'm back on the road again  :305:.

Thought I would post in case anyone else has the same problem in the future, but hopefully not.

Glad it's all sorted, wassers. I hope it's just a one-off and not something that will affect other owners. At least we know what it is if it does happen.

I had the same problem today. neutral flashing, motor managemant light came on and showing all the numbers of the gears randomly while I was in 5th gear on the motorway. Occasionaly the bike had fuel problems , didn't run smooth, as it got the wrong information from the gear selector I suppose?
I'll call the dealer tommorow to have the problem solved.

    Regards,

    Vlerk

Good to know about a potential problem like this.

Wassers, Vlerk: What's your odometer showing, these days?
