Metallic debris in the oil crankcase

Hi guys I have posted here the known problem from shifting between 6th to 5th gear sometimes goes to a false neutral.

So I imagine that this has to leave some debris in the oil, as i'm going to make the 1 year revision this saturday, I need to know before the dealer, "clean it up" I have to suspect that all dealers are defending their interest not the client as it should be, so I bend over my ducati gently and what I find I will show you in the photos in attach:

    tell me yours opinions:  :018: :018: :018:

Wow. So that's why we have to go for an oil change at 600 miles / 1000 km
What is the bolt in your photos?

that is correct, but my Ducati has 10.000km and this is how it looks the bolt of my oil engine crankcase... this bolt should be clean with no metallic debris. so there is some abnormal play inside the motor or gearbox... I believe this is from the gearbox because of the issue that I've got with the downshifting from 6th to 5th gear sometimes stays in a false neutral.

so tomorrow I will put my Ducati in my local dealer for the 1 year revision, and will ask to open the gearbox for checking and valuate what is the source of these metallic debris and send the information for ducati Italy, that is already waiting for the report.

Go for it and please post how you get on and what the subsequent findings are 👍🏻

    hi guys,

sorry for the late response, but it's been a hard year for me... anyway the dealer didnít show any concern about this issue, they says that is normal, they cut the oil filter in half and there was no debris in it, so the engine is fine, the debris are surely from the gearbox.

Now I'm near from a new oil change, so I will be searching for debris, hope that there isn't none, if there is some. most probably is to change for another bike, probably the new yamaha mt-09 tracer GT.
    let see how it goes.

    cheers

That's not true  :006: There are always fine particles and shavings coming from the engine and that's why there's a magnetic plug in the sump, to collect these bits so they don't recirculate round the engine/gearbox and do a lot more damage. What you don't want is big chunks (like gear teeth). It's had to tell from the photos but it doesn't look too bad to me.

I had an old nail of a bike from which I pulled out part of a crankshaft shim on the sump plug. I never bothered and at the next oil change I pulled the rest of it out  :008: Mind you the gearbox had a separate oil supply.
Anything more than two wheels is unnecessary.

How do you say is not true, this was not the first oil change, and if you see on the pictures, there are not only debris, there are chunks as well, if is not true, only if is in DUCATI's World, my Japanese motorcycles never had any debris not even a grain.

I'm curious to see what to find on the next oil change service (20.000Kms) and this time I'll go for the net filter as well. If I find the same scenario, I certainly sell the bike, not if I don't like it, because I do, but don't want to have an expensive nightmare ahead.

I talk to a friend of mine that works with Italian brands not Ducati, but Aprilia, Moto Morini, Moto Guzzi, etc - and he said that is normal to have debris and also said that they are cool motorcycles to go out in the weekend for a short ride a then back to the garage.  :002: :155:

Something that I notice - all the mechanics in the Ducati dealer have Japanese motorcycles  :015: :015: LOL
