    Engine temp

I'm thinking my 950 is running cold and I'm keen to know what other bikes are running at.  On a run in the current weather mine won't hit 60 degrees and tends to hover in the low 50s for coolant temp.  To my mind that's way too low and the thermostat shouldn't be opening until the low 80s.

What temp are your bikes running at?

That sounds similar to mine which I hope is normal. I was out on Sunday in 4 deg temperatures and mine was around 58 deg.
During the normal tempatures and higher summer temperatures it won't go more than 62 to 63 at motorway speeds.

In and around town it will raise high but I've never took any notice when the fan kicks in.

Ditto for me on that temp at this time of the year - summer quite a difference though - much more around 85 if my memory serves me correctly

Ahh a subject to awaken the nerd in me. I spend a lot of time watching the engine temperature because commuting is so boring.

In summer weather on flowing roads/motorways the temperature stays around 70C to 80C. Stop and within a couple of minutes the temperature is way high and the fans kick in. Both fans kick in together which is not what the Ducati mechanic described, he said one comes on then the other as back up. Maybe this is just the 1200 or older models. Anyway the fans kick in at 103C. My bike gets up to 105C before dropping down to 97C. This is pretty consistent.

In the winter below 5C (or a bit higher is its raining) slow traffic causes the temperature to rise significantly less as you would expect. On the motorway, engine temp now swings between 57ish and 63ish; I think the thermostat is struggling between just open and fully shut. The thermostat normally opens at 63C dropping the engine temp to 57C (I watch this because it makes a big difference to how the clutch works/grabs). However yesterday (-5C ignition lock fully frozen etcetc  :005: ) the thermostat opened just above 60C and cooled the engine right down to 51C (I watched this to make sure my pipes weren't frozen!).

Disclaimer... These are all indicated temperatures on the dashboard. This is for my bike and may indicate what you will see but yours may be different. I send this in good faith (actually I'm glad to get it off my chest)  :008:

:008: I have a very tedious commute through three major rush-hour logjams  :003:

I'm also a very interesting person with some fascinating observations  :155:  :001:

Just back from a two hour ride with the air temperature at 6°C. Kept an eye on the engine temperature throughout; whilst making progress it showed 57/58, rising to 71 when negotiating Chelmsford town centre. Seems pretty much in line with the observations of others.

Same here, with temps around 5C I can barely get it over 60C which sucks to do the engine break in and it's been one of the reasons I haven't been riding almost at all. I want to wait for a bit warmer weather hoping that I can get the engine warmer to have the parts bed in nicely together.
