Ducati Panniers

I'm thinking of splashing out a large chunk of cash on the OEM panniers as I would like to take the bike into Europe rather than using the Pan all the time for the long trips. Having had the 950 for more than six months, I feel it is more than capable of taking me comfortably wherever I want to go.

So, to those who have the panniers, are there any problems with them and are they big enough? Do they make the width of the bike wider than the front end (for ease of filtering). I have looked at the Shad panniers but they appear to stick out so far at the back.

I'll almost certainly get them as they do look the part, but just wanted confirmation from those that have them that they are good. Cheers!

If you are planning a long trip. You will need a comfort seat first.
I don't have panniers and agree they look great but everytime I look at them they just feel flimsy and cheap....but we all know they are not cheap. I too would like to read the feedback.

I just use a tail bag and can get a week's clothes etc in mine but its a bit of faffing to tie it on.

I couldn't walk properly for a couple of days after my Catalunya trip last June......however the bike never missed a beat and a great tourer

I have OME panniers they work well
Fitted and removed in seconds
No ugly brackets
No problems

Thanks for your concern, DaveG, The seat has already been sorted by a local auto upholsterer and it is all-day comfy. I've got a large stuff-bag which would suffice, at a pinch, but as you say, it is a faff. Being used to chucking everything in the Pan's panniers and box has rather spoilt me over the years. But I would like to ride some mountain roads and passes on the multi, just for a different experience.

neilb if your handlebars go through the gap so will the panniers, as for the seat mentioned by Dave G you can get the seat recovered by a place in baldock for about £50 no sore bum now

Thanks, thenozzle, that's just what I wanted to hear. Seat's been sorted...see post above

I have the Ducati panniers and went camping for two weeks without any issues, they take a surprising amount. I don't have a top box so I used a cargo net to strap a 2 man tent and rucksack to the seat.
The panniers are more or less fit and forget. I filtered through holiday traffic on the M2 without any problems and they don't seem to affect handling like on other bikes I've had.
I did find them a right maul to fit initially. My son did the old "come here dad I'll do it for you" and he ended up sweating and cursing  I lightly greased the contact points and it made it a lot easier but it's not ideal because the grease has to be avoided. Anyway it seemed to get a bit easier with use, so hopefully it's just a bit of "newness" as I can't see why it's tight and there's no adjustment because all the bolts are solid

My experience
Standard panniers are ok, are a bit flimsy and can let a wee bit of wet in when in heavy rain.  They hold a good load but I also use roll top bag etc to supliment.
They also greatly compliment the looks of the bike and are a tidy fit though removing them can be a pain at times.
I’ve found them a bonus.

Here's my pride and joy with an Oxford tail bag on the standard rack. As previously mentioned it's a bit tricky getting it on but perfect for what I need it for. Pic was during a break before taking on the twisties near Andorra on the way to Catalunya last June.

Top boxes are useless IMO because they can only carry 5kg max
I have all clothes for a six day trip and basic tools etc if required and a chain. I then use a ruck sack for the other bits 👍
