    Oil consumption

Hi I have just completed a 2000 mile trip to Scotland and have had to add about 350mls of oil. Is this excessive. The bike had been ridden hard. It didn’t use any when running in. 😱

    Wow. That's excessive surely.
I have never had to put any oil in at any time. 5500 miles on a
The clock now and mine had 1st service at 4900 miles.

I did 2 trips to Europe last year to Catalunya and Assen.

Have you had it from new ? Was it run in correctly because it does make a difference.

Very strange. It shouldn't use that much oil. I would get it checked out

In older machines I would say that's quite normal but in new motors I would take a closer look and check it out .

I used about 200ml in 9000 miles so I think yours is a bit much. Word from Ducati mechanic is the harder you ride the less it uses.
Anything more than two wheels is unnecessary.

I find that hard to believe! I know that my Tiger 800 (present machine) never uses oil normally, however when riding in the Alps it does need topping up. This is because the motor is put under way more stress than normal and therefore uses more oil.

I checked with Ducati Aylesbury yesterday. They said that anything up to 1 litre per 1000 miles is fine. Someone also checked Ducati technical and they confirmed that. Still don’t think it’s right on a new bike though.

    OMG I can't believe that !!
If my bike used that in a 1000 mile it will be going back to the dealer for my money back. Have you Seen the cost of the special oil they recommend. 😲

Seriously I have not had to put any oil in yet within 5500 miles. I have a bottle unopened in the garage ready for the top up.
