why so many accessories we have to buy

I have just been thinking, in the good old days (50 years ago) we did not have all the accessories but still managed. Maybe we would not attempt such long journeys in one day, but nonetheless we were accessory less.
Now we have to buy a better screen, a comfort seat , oil and rad guards,  crash bars or bungs, lower footpegs, panniers/top box and the biggest insult is the centre stand is an extra. Can anyone add too the list the accessories they have?

Can’t remember having to buy a comfort seat in times gone by - bikes used to come fitted with one as standard 🙄

I haven't been riding that long (only 5 years or so) but I agree it seems ridiculous some of the things that are 'accessories', even on high end expensive bikes.

Specific to the MTS950; the exclusion of a center stand on an adv bike and the inability to adjust the seat (but you can buy lower versions or comfortable versions for £300 sir!) are particular pet peeves.

I haven't needed to change the screen on the MTS and can understand that different people need different screens so this is somewhat understandable. And i do sometimes enjoy adding accessories which personalise a bike (dare i mention stickers!). But yeh, some of the stuff is just ridiculous.

Ducati aren't alone though: My triumph tiger didn't come with a rear hugger (another necessity on adv bikes) and triumph didn't even sell an OEM one!? Center stand was also an addition, as were hand guards...

My list is Fender extender. Throttle slack shims. Phone holder for sat nav on the phone. Ducati Touring Screen.

Wish list...heated grips, Comfier seat, Sat Nav holder and bike sat nav, center  stand.

Having just bought my bike it rather bites my @@@@ that so much stuff is an extra, the centre stand in particular. I'll have to save my pennies and get the Touring Pack as it gives me the stuff I really want but ow!

We all know the answer, it is down to pure profit and setting the bike in the right cost zone to compete. I do believe the packs could be a better mix or include/drop make a pick and mix package at say 15% discount on items standard price. Still that is business take it or leave it.
