From new I had no problem with false neutrals, the gearbox was really sweet and slick. Recently touring the Highlands the clutch seems to have altered in character and I am getting some false neutrals. The biggest concern is there seems no feathering the clutch. The difference between clutch engaged and not engaged is extremely small travel. i only have to pull in the lever about 20% of its full allowed travel and the clutch disengages. letting the lever out is so short the clutch  engages,hence it is like having an on off switch. Have tried adjusting to no avail.
Do you have any measurements are they the same as advised in the handbook. I am really stuck on getting this right and it is making riding difficult. The other thing is the manual states free play as the least resistance part of pulling in the lever, I cannot feel any difference.
The bike otherwise is superb.

Free play is usually pretty obvious. It may be that with all that speedy riding in the highlands your clutch cable has tightened as a result of a bit of wear and taken up all the slack. Slack should be visible and the measure is shown in the owner handbook. Page 192 on the pdf copy on my tablet.

Try slackening the adjuster off and see if you can get some slack back in the cable.

It may be a "thing" that around 6,000 to 8,000 miles the clutch cable may need a bit of adjustment. You're not the first person to notice this. A quick tweek makes a massive difference.

I'm assuming that your problems persist after the warm up period. Mine can still be a bugger until I've been riding for 15 minutes and that's with over 13,000 miles

Hi ChrisS and Conman- i  looked in the manual , tried to adjust using the adjuster to no avail . There is meant to be a second adjuster but cannot see it  (probably under the tank)
I will talk to the dealer.

The cable routes under the tank and the clutch actuator end comes out on the top side of the engine casing at the right of the bike. Mine has a distinct free play of about 4mm at the clutch lever before it takes up the tension of the clutch actuator. I couldn't see any other adjuster apart from the one on the clutch lever. Sorry I can't be more help - I'm new to the Multi myself having come from many years on Hondas.

Mine is as you described it when cold, but after a few minutes it comes alright

I have had to adjust the thumb wheel until no thread shows at all then I get a little free play (I think). What is normal amount of thread showing on other bikes within say 5000 miles on the clock. Have not yet had time for a test ride.
I suppose at what point does the arm start to move that actuates the clutch

I have over 6k miles and have something like 5mm of thread showing (available to adjust) - and about the recommended amount of free play - 4mm - so all good for me

Thank you all who contributed. Given your inputs I was able to confidently accept the free play does exist, so accordingly adjusted. As I wrote earlier there is now no thread showing at all.
I hope this bodes well because if I get cable stretch I will have to adjust and thread will be showing and should the clutch plates get thinner I will have to wind out again. The bike feels now much better. The clutch is still sharp but that seems to be Ducati style.
Has any one changed their  clutch lever; for the lever to be closer to the handlebar (a bigger dog leg)?

Sorry about all the mails on a clutch. I have just read in the manual that a worn clutch tensions the cable, so my surmise in my last mail was wrong. If the clutch wears you have to screw in the adjuster in. Which means in my case I have no adjustment left except for adjuster 2 (see manual) that I cannot find at the moment. Looks like will be talking to the dealer
