    End of Riding Season?
    on: October 27, 2018, 09:38:29 am

    Hi All:

Lovely weather in Scotland this weekend (Oct 27/28). Clear blue skies with a brisk wind out of the north and temps going no higher than 7C. Was going to brave a ride for a couple of hours on the bike today in what would probably have been the last ride of the 2018 season. However the local council and trunk road maintenance companies have spoiled that by spreading salt on Friday night / Saturday morning.  :232: :172: :230:

I salute those riders whom brave worse weather and road conditions but to my mind I would rather not get any salt on a motorcycle .. Ducati or other.  Time to go winterise the bike.

If you care to comment, what is your criteria for ending your riding season?
    Kind Regards,
    Wethogs

I ride through the winter and jet wash the bike after every ride.

I wear a heated under jacket and it's toasty

Exactly as the man says. Added bonus for this winter is that I’ve been given a pair of Keis heated gloves to go with the heated vest. So, roll on the Arctic weather :005:

I'm not ready to put the Ducati away just yet and hope I can extend the riding season a little bit longer.

Im still planning on using the Mutley to commute to work into London, but I will be selective as my rules are no freshly laid salt on the roads or temperature dropping below 3 degrees. Other than that it's a case of ensuring it's got plenty of ACF-50 and washed regularly.

Depressing to think I'll soon have to succumb to being a cager and driving into London soon though.  :019:

BTW. Don't forget the clocks go back tonight.

British Summer Time finally comes to an end at 2am.

That means I will now be riding to work and back in the dark!

Now where did I put that lovely sexy hi-viz vest???  :027:

Having been an all year round commuter for many years, now as a retiree I'm looking forward to not having to turn out during the dark, cold and wet of winter. I'm picking my new MS up from the dealer on Monday and it will be a cosseted beast that will probably not see much action during the coming months once the weather turns. I am hoping to get a few miles in first though !!!

I ride much much less in the winter, but the bike isn't tucked away too tightly, so it still comes out for the occasional nice fresh day we get. I also do a Christmas charity ride every year which is brilliant and I wouldn't want to miss.
Sometimes a Christmas day or boxing day ride can be lovely too - just 90mins to myself away from the hectic full household, and no traffic on the roads!

I don't have heated gear (except grips) but ACF-50 is amazing stuff so i don't worry too much about the bike.

I still ride, few parameters though: not below 3 degree OAT, it has rained since the last covering of salt/grit....

    Heated gloves and a Buffalo under-suit...warm as toast... :001: :305: :305: :305: :305: :305:

I have a trip planned from South Wales to Anglesey on Monday, return weds.  Can’t wait as it will be the first proper ride on the bike since i got her in august.  Reckon it might be a bit chilly when I set off, but will soon warm up....hope the salt wont have arrived, but reckon it might having looked at the weather  :230:
Don’t think i will subject her to much of the winter .... apart from the odd ride  :305:
