    18 MTS buffeting

Hey all, I'm 6'2" 35" inseam and with the stock windscreen and I get a crazy amount of buffeting at any speed over 65 mph in all 3 positions. When I stand on the pegs things get much more quiet in the clean air flow.

Conversely, I have to crouch to an uncomfortable slouch position to get behind the screen to avoid buffeting, but when I do my helmets ability to properly defog breath becomes an issue. At this point I'm leaning towards a much shorter screen to try and capture clean air versus looking through a larger windscreen.

    Any recommendations?

PUIG makes a very nice short screen that matches the bike well. I got mine in Dark Smoke but is available in clear and light smoke as well. Should be no more than $90 wherever you buy it. Here'e a link to Amazon but it is available at many retailers.

Mind If I ask how tall you are? Did the smaller screen put your head in cleaner air and help with buffeting?

    Hi Haastile

If you want your head in clean air it might be best to get the short OEM Ducati Enduro screen.

+1 on Puig! I got a larger version of their windscreen, the Touring, also in |dark smoke:

That's because I've got a factory screen that is in good condition, but it is not tall enough. So now I have got 2 and can switch from 1 to another when I need to.

I'm finding the standard screen to be unbearable with the noise and buffeting.  I don't really want to get a bigger screen of to go with an extra spoiler....so, does the shorter screen reduce buffeting?

    thanks
    Simon

Everybody has different feelings on this so unfortunately what works for one will not work for all. I didn't have a problem with the stock screen, I just bought the Puig Touring one to try it as well as the short Puig Short Racing screen as well because I love to deck out my bikes (my cruiser has the works!). I liked the Puig screen on my Honda and can say I'm happy with both of them now as well. The short screen is perfect if you want to set you bike up as a stripped down machine but I have mine set up as a tourer now so I have the touring screen with the deflector on and it really provides a quiet ride and looks great.

I cut the standard screen to 1/2” above the top of the adjuster bracket. Also mounted the short screen with the iconic parts spacers and reduced the turbulence/buffeting/roar with a cleaner flow but it’ still requires earplugs and it is much louder compared to clean air when standing.

I also ordered the smoked Givi which is the non touring model. It’s the same length compared to the stock screen unaltered with a different shape. When used with spacers in the up position I no longer require earplugs.

I have to say that for me the MRA Vario screen (at top adjustment) is absolutely perfect - no wind buffet and little wind noise even at higher speeds . Having said that it does come with spacer bolts which I think is one of the secrets of cleaning up the airflow on this type even with the stock screen . The MRA Vario doesn't look quite as attractive as the stock screen but  it is no higher .

Screens are very much a question of personal choice based on helmet type and rider height and there has been much past discussion on this topic
