    defective gearbox position sensor

My 950 had been showing a flickering gear indiacter and flickering green neutral light when I shifted to neutral. Also if I put the side stand down when in neutral the engine would die, likewise it would not start with the gearbox in neutral and the sidestand down. I asked the dealer to check this when I had my 18000 mile service done earlier this month. Actual mileage was closer to 20,000.  The service department determined the gear position sensor was defective. Ducati approved a warranty replacement and they got this done in a weeks time. They also replaced a worn chain and front sprocket which I paid for.
We're lost but we're making great time!

I have the same problem.  I am waiting on word of warranty repair after having it checked by the dealer in January.

My check engine light did not come on when I was having the problem with the gear position sensor. And the problem only only occurred when the gearbox was in neutral.

Mine did the same. Several errors on engaged gear, and finally Chek Engine Light ON.
The reason is the gear box sensor is conected to the CAN-Bus system. A defective sensor can cause interferences to the rest of the sensors conneted to de CAN-Bus (bad communication). Connecting the Ducati diagnose system, ECU shows failures in the front ABS sensor, BlueTooth module and of course gearbox sensor. Replacing this one, and a ECU's reset (under warranty) solves the problem.
In other forums some Ducati owners reports this issue, about these and other models.
