Ducati Road Side Assistance

Hi:

I was having a trawl on https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/. Specifically looking for experiences with Ducati Roadside Assistance in either the UK or abroad. There are some real horror stories there. So I ask my fellow MTS 950 owners if anyone has required the services of Ducat Roadside Assistance and if so how timely / good was their service? I am doing a European trip in September and am wondering if I should purchase something that is potentially more reliable.

There was one incident that I had in France in 2005 where a French Farmer pulled their Toyota pickup out in front of me. The European breakdown cover that I had was superb. Arranged bike collection and bike repatriation to the UK, overnight hotel stay and train tickets back to Zeebrugge Belguim. I was pleased as punch as all it took were two mobile calls to sort out.

I have all my vehicles covered on a Green Flag personal policy with full European cover given to the MTS. I had occasion to use them some five years ago when my Pan was reversed into, at speed, by a Toyota Landcruiser when boarding the ferry at Calais. The crew got the bike on board and a recovery vehicle was waiting for me at Dover to take me and the bike home..No hassle at all.

Useful to get all this feedback  - I thought that breakdown cover with people like Green Flag, AA and RAC etc was just that  - for breakdowns and did not cover not recovery after an accident - perhaps somebody can enlighten us on this matter.

I did have the need to use the Ducati Roadside Assistance 2 years ago after an accident and they were good (their small print does actually cover accident recovery)  - however they did sub con the job to the AA

I believe you are quite correct. Remembering back,Green Flag recovered me and it was the driver who said that it was very generous of them and that the recovery should have been arranged through my insurance company.

I wrote a long essay, but the forum kicked me out before posting

Short version: if you fit the rules, and are not further away from home than 1500 km, it will work.
Else expect high bills for yourself to come out
Transport is maximum 1800 euro. We where stranded in Europe at 2500 km from home with a broken ignition lock.
They wanted us to pay 700 euro, I ended up arranging own transport to the truck of our travel agency on own cost, which was located 200 km away. Ducati road assistance was only able to follow strict rules, and would pay 1800 euro for transport(estimate was 2500 total, 700 euro self payment), 200 for 2 hotel nights, 500 euro for flight tickets back home, and the 200 euro towing service to nearest dealer.  2700 euro without problem, but 200 euro for the 200km to our travel agency truck was not possible (would have avoided all other cost)
