Faulty Gas Level Sensor -- Anyone else?

Hey guys, I have a 2017 with a mere 6000 miles on it.  I just took it out and the gas light and fuel level readouts are flashing, as if the tank is empty (and the range reads "-----".  I know this has been an issue that plagued the MS1200 displays, just wondering if anyone else knows about this.  And OF COURSE the bike just went out of factory warranty.  The dealership says they will approach Ducati to see if they will cover this, but no guarantee.

Any insights/suggested approaches greatly appreciated.

I had this problem, luckily still within the warranty period...it was the fuel sender unit at fault..

Hopefully your dealer will sort it out for you gratis...

I have the same issue, however, mine is intermittent.  It will work for a while, go blank for a while, start working again.  I just brought it in to the dealer and they said the sensor checked good, but they did see the fuel gauge show empty.  They did a software update, but admitted that the software update did not mention that it contained a fix for a fuel issue.  The gauge has worked for the last 30 miles.  The dealer said if it happens again, they will change the fuel sensor.  I will follow up after I put on some time and mileage to let you know if the software update fixed my issue.

It's been 6 weeks and about 600 miles since I had the software update and the fuel gauge has worked flawlessly.  I'm assuming the software update was the fix.  Regardless, I haven't seen the issue reoccur in 6 weeks.

I was an F-15 avionics tech with a little electronics experience, so I realize that a disconnection and reconnection of a connector can legitimately fix a problem if it was caused by a non-secure connection.  I know there's a possibility that when the dealer did the disconnection and reconnection of the sensor to test it (which they said tested ok),  they seated the connector to where it's a secure connection. 

Can you give us an update and let us know where you currently stand with the issue?

So the end result was that my local dealer here in Portland worked with Ducati to take care and fix this free of charge to me.  Rickmeister, reading your description of the fault, mine acted exactly the same.  But it had finally left the intermittent fuctioning phase and was constantly showing the tank was empty, at least for about a month before I brought it into service.  Then, of course on the day I brought it in, the sensor just started working perfectly, showing the proper gas tank level, and they looked at me like I was high.  Well, not really, as this seems to be a common problem on our bikes.

Will that sensor set a code if it intermittently flashes

Mine just started doing this a week or so ago and had about 2/3 tank in. It’s been sitting for a couple months so I’m wondering if it’s just buildup as it seemed to get back working after 1/4 tank was down and would kick back on on an incline and intermittently.  I’ll try and track the connection to see if it’s just not seated right, hopefully so. Only have just over 10,000 on it also going to fill with some ethanol free once I can empty this tank.
