27000 mile (43500 km) Service

A friend has just done this for me today in his workshop. Stripped the bike of its plastics to get to the air filter and did all necessaries. Examined the old oil which was free from any debris, with nothing on the magnetic drain plug......good to know. Changed out the original front pads for SBS Street Sinter......the originals still had about 1/4 of the material left on them. Heís been over everything, lubricating pivot points and levers as required. A clean bill of health at the end of it.....excellent! Forgot to mention the change of coolant at this service interval.

He took it for a test ride and thinks it is a great bike that could be fantastic with a decent, decatted exhaust system and a Power Commander to take care of the fuelling. His immediate comment to me was that he could feel it was being strangled to meet Euro 4 emissions and that it lacked the power that should be there below 4000 rpm. My response that removing the cat would lead to more emissions pumping out Into the air was met by him saying that a properly tuned bike will not add to the problem but should see improved fuel consumption  and no increase in emissions. Food for thought!

For some reason they changed the coolant on my 18,000 mile service which surprised the service manager (about £15).  And didn't change the brake fluid, which I would much rather they'd done.
Anything more than two wheels is unnecessary.

Yes, coolant change clearly stated for the 27000 mile service (or 4 years). Iíve had two changes of front brake fluid so far with the two replacement front master cylinders due to the reservoir leaking (the latest is still weeping around the reservoir lid!!!).

Interesting feedback.  I plan to have my Mutley tuned on a Dyno (as I did with my Tracer) at some point, as I think this is better (and cheaper) than a Power Commander.  Your man is right though Neil - we can all feel the odd fueling gremlin - eg low speed on off throttle response.  I know you can change modes to reduce it (as we all do) but there is no need if the fueling is properly adjusted.  I don't know for sure but there may be other restrictions (Tracer had a speed limiter which could be disabled), and fan switch on temps etc.  I'm not after more power, just smooth consistent power / torque curves, and consistent fueling throughout the rev range.  Not bothered about removing the CAT though.....
