    Scheduled Service Reminder

Here's something I didn't know, but first what I did know...
When you have a service, the Ducati technician resets the service counter in your bike's software using the Ducati interface. This starts a countdown for 12 months after which time when you switch on the ignition, you get a countdown/reminder (starting 30 days before the anniversary) by way of a little oil can and "Date" on your dashboard . This is your yearly service.

If however you hit one of the distance services before a year is out (15000Km/30000Km or 9320mile/18642mile etc etc) you get the oil can and "Service" with a countdown from 1000Km (621 miles). The distance service trumps the date service. In other words if you have the distance service first you will not see the date service. The reverse is not the case!

What I didn't know 1: - if you have a "Date" service, the distance service is still counting down in the background. This kind of makes sense because the date service is basically a fluid check/change, none of the big stuff is looked at. You still need the full service but you can perhaps negotiate with the dealer if it really needs all the fluids doing again when your distance service follows closely the date service.

What I didn't know 2: - the distance service reminder is not "intelligent". By that I mean the service comes up at the set distance regardless of when the service was done. So if you get the service done say 500Km/miles early or late, the service will still flag as being due at the distance in the book, it does not reset from the odometer reading when it's done.

What I didn't know 3: - the service reminder cannot be reset while it's counting down. That may be a general statement, apparently some you can, some you can't. Whether that means some models, some software revisions or some particular bikes I don't know. Essentially if you haven't reached the service distance (it's still counting down) then the software will not accept a reset; it's still aiming for the next service distance which is the one you just had done a bit early. In my case 200 miles early and it won't reset. It's a knock-on effect from "What I didn't know 2".

So in summary, if you don't want your dashboard flashing incorrect oil cans (and I don't) have your service done just after the service distance. Oh, and get on your bike and ride more than 15000km or 9320 miles a year  :305:

Anything more than two wheels is unnecessary.

Phew, I'm out of breath reading that 😂

Anyway, my local mechanic buddy resets my service warnings without problem using diagnostic equipment that I loaned him the money to buy.

OK I am with you so far but....
My 950 was serviced in Feb 19 at 11944 miles
It has now done 18145 so due a distance service inc valve check and belts and no warnings are showing?
But from what you have said there should be? so why not I ask myself... or anyone.. :084:

The service is due at around 18,600 miles. I can't remember if the reminder is at 500 or 300 miles. Anyway your reminder is probably not due just yet but it is imminent.

Ooops  :034: being a bit less rushed I just re-read my original posting. It does appear that, according to the book, the warning should come up at around 18,020 miles. As I mentioned above, I was told that some bikes can reset the mileage based on when you have the service done but whether this means model of bike, version of software or any particular bike I don't know. It would be interesting to read other owners experience. And yes, NeilB I know you don't have any problem with anything  :028:
