Engine knock!

Filtered through heavy traffic this morning then filled up before going out of town, pulled away from filling station into second gear and it knocked like hell!........anybody else had this or I am I just lucky engine temp was 85c

Think you've been unlucky there Grahew.

I've never had anything like that before.

Think you should get that booked in asap in case its something serious.

Yes it's the first time it happen but also the hottest the engine has ever been due to heavy traffic at one stage it was 101c may play safe and ring Ducati for advise.

Temp 101...... that's normal for me in traffic, mine goes up to 105 before I hear the fan cut in & drops quite quickly

Bug does yours suffer from engine knock? And are you using leaded ir super unleaded?

No engine knock that I no of...... if I'm in heavy congestion I put it in urban mode which softens everything down, as for fuel I normally only use shell & vary between normal unleaded or v power

Thanks, I think the answer is in better fuel I see you use Shell v power I think I'll give it a try

The only time my engine sounded rough was after I had to use Jet petrol as I was on fumes and it was the first petrol station I came to. Never again! I treated her with Shell v-power afterwards.

To much of a coincidence it going wrong just after you fill up I think. It sounds more like a bad filling station rather than a general fuel problem. I always try to get the best grade of fuel available but sometimes that is only 95RON E5 which is pretty crap; the performance of the bike suffers but I don't remember any knocking. The bike should take E10 but I'm not going to try it.

As BabyD says, temperature is not a problem. I've had mine up to 107C in sweltering conditions in a German traffic jam (they don't like you filtering) and and up to 81C down a Czech autoroute without any problems. It gets damn hot in central Europe

Thanks for you input, I need to stop being a tight arse! and fill it with higher octane and see how I go. Just as a note it had a oil change 2500 miles ago and the oil is black I assume 95 octane wont help
